Supervisory Social Worker

The Supervisory Social Worker ( Vet Center Director) work in cooperative collaboration with other team members and with professionals, paraprofessionals, volunteers and others in VA facilities and community agencies to help veterans recognize and resolve their problems and needs. The counseling and therapeutic services provided by the Vet Center range from routine to complex and include suicide prevention, crisis intervention, short- and long-term treatment with clients exhibiting post-traumatic stress disorder, other psychiatric disorders and/or readjustment problems. Clients encountered and problems exhibited necessitates a variety of psychological, rehabilitation, social work, counseling and mental health techniques including, but not limited to, individual, group, conjoint, vocational, educational, substance abuse and readjustment counseling.Duties include but are not limited to:
Provides guidance and consultation to other team members conducting interviews, counseling, and therapy. Establishing, maintaining and conducting outreach activities with veterans, community and service organizations, business and industry, professionals and the public. Personally conducts other client treatment; individual, group, conjoint and family therapy; biofeedback; relaxation training and other therapeutic intervention strategies. Serves as a major resources and consultant to the hospital in regard to resources in this target area. Serves as the Contracting Officer Technical Representative for the fee/contracts program. Responsible for program development, budget development and fiscal management, personnel management and resource utilization. Provide clinical and administrative leadership, management and supervision of all Vet Center staff and all other professional, paraprofessional and nonprofessional staff assigned to work at the Vet Center and to plan, develop, implement, coordinate, monitor and evaluate all treatment services of the Vet Center. Supervisory Social Worker:
Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work. Licensure:
Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found on the OHRM website. Grade Determinations:
Supervisory Social Workers, GS-12:
At the GS-l2 grade, Supervisory Social Workers typically have significant personnel management responsibilities for a small to medium size professional and nonprofessional staff, including support staff and professional staff at the GS-11 grade level and below.They are responsible for the professional and administrative management of an area in a social work service, in a care line, or multiple facilities. They also provide direct clinical services with or without program coordination responsibilities. Experience, Education and Licensure. Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSAs below. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for Supervisory Social Worker:
Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services. Ability to provide staff training and development. Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers. Preferred
Experience:
Working knowledge of Veterans, Service Members and Families, particularly those with PTSD, combat stress and multiple diagnoses. Working with and assisting military or veteran populations in support of development and readjustment. Supervising/managing a small mental health team. The work is primarily sedentary. It may require some lifting (10-20 lbs.) occasionally. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
